“Growing Canopies”, a graduate school project by BBB’s Scott Archer, was selected for the 2016 AIA Emerging Professionals Exhibit, under this year’s theme “It takes a community”.

The project was completed at Columbia’s GSAPP and published as part of the Urban Design Lab’s publication entitled Re-Envisioning Health in Kumasi: Spatial Provocations. This project is a comprehensive proposal for improvements to holistic health in Kumasi, Ghana. Addressing healthcare, waste management, and eco-therapy, the plan presents two case studies creating intersections between ecology and architecture.

Scott Archer completed the project in collaboration with Samarth Das (Urban Designer/Architect at P.K. Das & Associates, Mumbai, India), Sagi Golan (Associate Urban Designer at NYC Department of City Planning), and Vanessa Espaillat Lovett (Senior Urban Designer at NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development).

The exhibition opened on Friday at the AIA National Headquarters (1735 New York Ave NW, Washington, DC) and will remain on view through September. You can read more about the project on the AIA website as well as the several other projects included in the exhibition.
